Source discretization: the physical Mxy point source was represented as a symmetric four-point source on the staggered XY stress grid. The total moment was conserved by assigning equal weights of 0.25 to the four sub-sources surrounding the nominal source position. This was done to reduce possible numerical leakage associated with injecting a pure Mxy source at a single staggered-grid node.

It uses staggered-grid finite differences to solve wave equations in viscoelastic solids.
